Doing Your Exercises
Set up a clear, well-lit space and a steady phone so Alivra's camera can give you on-screen and sound tips while you exercise, without scoring, measuring or diagnosing. Stop straight away if you feel pain or unwell and contact your clinician, or call 000 in an emergency.
1. Set up your space and camera
A good setup helps the movement guidance work properly and keeps you safe.
Your space:
- Choose a room with good, even light.
- Clear a space on the floor so you can move freely. Move rugs, cords and furniture out of the way.
- Don't stand with a bright window or lamp behind you. It makes it hard for the camera to see you.
- Wear clothes you can move easily in.
Your phone or tablet:
- Stand your device up on something steady, like a shelf, table or phone stand.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to place it at the right distance and angle.
- Make sure the camera can clearly see the part of your body you're exercising.
- Check you're connected to Wi-Fi or 4G.
The camera is only used to give you tips while you move. It doesn't measure your movement or check your health.
2. How the movement guidance works
While you exercise, Alivra uses your phone's camera to watch your movement and give you tips as you go.
What you'll get:
- On-screen cues that show you how to do the movement
- Spoken or sound cues to help you keep good form
Good to know:
- The guidance helps you do your exercises the way your clinician set them.
- It doesn't give you a score or a number, and it doesn't measure how far you can move.
- It doesn't check or diagnose your condition.
- It follows fixed rules. It isn't artificial intelligence (AI) and it doesn't learn or change from other people's data.
If the guidance doesn't appear, see The camera isn't working.
3. Stop if it hurts: staying safe while you exercise
Your safety comes first. Listen to your body.
Stop your exercise straight away if you:
- Feel pain, or pain that gets worse
- Feel dizzy, faint or short of breath
- Notice new swelling, weakness or numbness
- Feel unwell in any way
What to do next:
- Stop and rest somewhere safe.
- Contact your clinician. You can message them in Alivra for things that aren't urgent.
- In an emergency, call 000. Don't use in-app messaging for urgent problems.
Other safety tips:
- Only do the exercises your clinician has set for you.
- Keep your exercise space clear so you don't trip.
- If the app stops working during an exercise, stop and don't guess the rest. Follow the plan your clinician gave you, or contact them.
